Jacek Dankowski,
Championship Director
 I
would like to welcome all the participants, guests and
spectators.
Leszno for the third time
has had an honour of organising the World Gliding Championships.
The previous Championships were here in 1958 and 1968.
We received the right to organise the current Championships
in April 2002. We were waiting for this moment for 35
years. We've had 1 year and 3 months for the preparation.
It has been a very difficult time for everyone involved.
Thanks to a great effort of people and great involvement
of strength and sources, our airfield is fully prepared
to become a home for everyone coming over for these
three weeks.
For the first time in
history Championships in 4 FAI classes: Standard, 15
meter, 18 meter, and Open, will be run in one airfield.
In the due time we accepted 134 participation entries
from 31 countries o the world.
The competitors
will have all the central and western Poland at their
disposal, as well as parts of northern Czech and eastern
German airspace.
During the Championships
we will set traditional speed tasks with turning points,
as well as with assigned areas. We will do our best
to set the tasks in a way to give both the competitors
and the spectators joy of watching the gliders cross
the finish line.
I would like to assure
you that we'll do our best to run the Championships
at the highest sporting rivalry level. We will especially
stress the necessity to secure safety of all the participants.
I would like to wish
everyone a happy stay, good weather and successes only
during your visit to Leszno.
